Wrinkle Relaxers/ Neurotoxins

Wrinkle relaxers or Neurotoxins work by preventing the release of signals (acetylcholine) from the nerves to muscles that cause contraction and thereby inhibit contraction.  This then temporarily relaxes the muscles of the face from contracting that cause wrinkling overtime secondary to repeated movement. This is given by a very small needle.

The most commonly injected areas include vertical lines between the eyes (the 11’s), “crow’s feet” around the eyes, forehead lines, chin dimples, vertical lip lines around the mouth, and axilla (axillary hyperhidrosis).

Results are typically starting to be seen for first time patients around 7 to 10 days after treatment and takes full effect at about 2 weeks.   For a follow up patient, this can start to take effect around 4 days after treatment and continue over the next few days up to 2 weeks for full effect.
